Bermuda High Question

#1 Postby Cookiely » Fri Aug 08, 2008 6:51 am

This is from the Tampa Weather Forecast discussion. Will the Bermuda High in this position protect Florida from the impact of a hurricane?
.LONG TERM (SUN-THU)...NO CHANGES TO CURRENT FORECAST NEEDED.
OVERALL LARGE SCALE WEATHER PATTERN HAS UPPER LEVEL TROUGH ALONG THE
EASTERN U.S. SEABOARD WITH THE BERMUDA HIGH AXIS ALONG OR SOUTH OF
THE FLORIDA KEYS. THIS KEEPS AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF WESTERLY FLOW
ACROSS AREA. THIS ALSO CONTINUES AN ENHANCED CHANCE OF RIP CURRENTS
FROM BRADENTON TO CEDAR KEY.

If the high was in the position mentioned it would protect Florida from a hurricane east of Florida from moving westward towards Florida.
