Typhoon Carmen (1960)

#1 Postby Just Joshing You » Mon May 04, 2009 9:26 pm

I'm looking for images of Typhoon Carmen in 1960. Does anyone know where I could find them? I'm told that this storm had an uncharacteristically large eye and wish to see.

1960 is a bit early for satellite imagery.

Go to the JTWC site at http://www.metocph.nmci.navy.mil/jtwc.php and click on ATCR Archive and then select the 1960 ATCR and scroll down to the TY Carmen PDF listing and click there. That will give you the storm narrative on Carmen which includes a radar photograph. The photograph is not very good quality and you must bear in mind that dedicated weather radars were not common in WPAC in 1960.
