Best radar sites?

#1 Postby gone2beach » Fri Jul 03, 2009 7:24 am

What do you consider to be the best, most up to moment radar sight? Some that used to update every few minutes are now only updating ever 15 min. Thanks!!

For the U.S., the best radar is generally the NWS radar. For your area, Slidell, LA is probably closer:

Thanks for the response. I am well aware of the NWS radar. Right now it is over an hour behind (not trying to be insulting, I know about the costs involved). I was looking for something more real time, even if it costs....We do a lot of outdoor activities and we're on a 'need to know basis' if there is a storm in the area.

Look to see if any of your local news stations have their own radars posted online...usually news stations have their own radar systems

Really? What radar are you using? I just checked the Slidell, LA radar and it's 6 minutes old. The NWS radars update every 5-10 minutes, all the time. They should never be older than that unless the individual radar is down for maintenance. If Slidell is down, try Mobile's radar.

As for local TV stations, you can use WWL's radar out of New Orleans:

And there's WLOX in Biloxi:

Neither TV station's radar is quite as good as the NWS radars, though.

This is the link I normally use...The NWS used to update every 3 minutes, which was a lot better IMHO.

Another good one is the Weather Underground radar site.
