Busiest Mid-July in Atlantic Year?

#1 Postby Cyclenall » Thu May 23, 2013 11:57 pm

I was just thinking of active periods near the start of the Atlantic hurricane season and something I realized is in recent times there hasn't been an active mid-July period that I have tracked or know of other than 2005. Because 2005 was so extreme, I will put that year aside and ask what other season had an active period between July 10-20. Anytime in June seems to be more of a hotspot for TC generation but once the middle of summer comes, the tropics in the Atlantic quiet down usually with something happening at the very start or finish of the month.

Well, I skimmed through the Wikipedia articles and this is what I've found:
-The 2008 season had Hurricane Bertha (C3), TS Cristobal, and Hurricane Dolly (C2)
-The 2006 season saw an unnamed TS, TS Beryl, and TS Chris
-The 2004 season had Hurricane Alex form on the 31st of July
-The 2003 season saw Hurricane Claudette (C1), Hurricane Danny (C1), and TD Six and Seven
-The 2002 season had only TS Arthur
-The 2001 season saw only TD Two
And that's it up to the 2000 season! Of course, there's always the possibility of this year

Well thanks for going through that trouble even though the method could be easier. Re: the possibility of this year is my forecast for this season  . It appears in recent times 2003 and 2008 had the most active Mid-July periods. Remember I'm not talking about the whole month, just July 10-20 overall.

I tried to find that handy Wunderground Atlantic and Epac tool where you can set some options to search for TC's in different categories like area on July 1 for example. I'm going to check the links topic on here to find it.

Good evening, Cyclenall
Another candidate is 1916: Hurricane 2 28Jun-10Jul, Hurricane 3 10Jul-22Jul, Hurricane 4 11Jul-15Jul. There were two other busy July's, based on the entire month, to include: 1995 and 1966...Hope that helps...Grtz from KW, Rich

That's great information, thanks. So 1916 is the other one. It turns out this period was dead this year as well, its quite rare then.
