Agree that it's still very intense on the NW side...just not as symmetrical as it used to be.

And you're right about the temp profile...pressure up, but good temp profile and a decent eye--who knows what he'll do!
If you are basing your convection intensity assessment on radar images, remember the radar will be attenuated by the intense convection on th NW side. It may not penetrate to the SE side.

True, but I think even in IR imagery the tops are higher to the northwest...if I'm looking at the true center, that is.

Even though the beam does not accurately penetrate through the storm in some cases (the NW quad isn't a problem here as the radar is located to the NE - it's MHX), the SE quad does look weaker compared to a couple of hours ago.

Look at Wilmington it is closer to the center and better detects lower level activity.

Next recon is getting there...just about over the middle of Georgia as of 0105 HDOB.

About one hour to the center, if they flew straight there.

It's almost a bit too close for my tastes, but yeah, MHX is pulling the north side of the eye around 9000 feet and the backside around 17000, so that is bound to be better for low level features.

EDIT: yes, thanks, 2000ft and 5000ft are much more reasonable numbers, and the center is far more apparent.
