JTWC now have this listed as "FAIR" in their Indian Ocean advisory section:

THE REMNANTS OF 24W, PREVIOUSLY LOCATED NEAR 8.3N 103.3E, ARE
NOW LOCATED NEAR 9.9N 98.5E, APPROXIMATELY 360 NM EAST-SOUTHEAST OF THE ANDAMAN ISLANDS. ANIMATED MULTISPECTRAL SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS IMPROVING CONSOLIDATION AND A WELL-DEFINED LOW LEVEL CIRCULATION CENTER. IMAGERY ALSO SHOWS FORMATIVE BANDING OVER THE SOUTH SEMI-CIRCLE AND OVER THE NORTH SEMI-CIRCLE EXTENDING EAST-SOUTHEAST OVER THE GULF OF THAILAND. UPPER LEVEL ANALYSIS INDICATES THAT THE AREA IS LOCATED WITHIN AN IMPROVING ENVIRONMENT WITH WEAK VERTICAL WIND SHEAR AND WEAK DIVERGENCE ALOFT. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE ESTIMATED AT 20 TO 25 KNOTS. MINIMUM SEA LEVEL PRESSURE IS ESTIMATED TO BE NEAR 1004 MB. THE POTENTIAL FOR DEVELOPMENT OF A SIGNIFICANT TROPICAL CYCLONE WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS IS FAIR.

Durian went in a category 4, I believe, and really rained-out and roughed up a good sized area SE of Manila.

Current hot spot is WPAC. Those who said "why isn't the Pacific seeing the global warming increase" should consider.

The name has been retired from the list of typhoon names. Technically the TY committee were only supposed to review storms from Oct 2005 to Oct 2006, but I suppose they made an exception: 801 dead 778 missing is the latest count.
