Impressive feat! That's for sure. On a side note...I'm extremely happy and glad to hear that model tracks are tightly clustered and that is all due to the hard work from past computer modelers. That's just so great. I'm really glad to hear that. I hope that's an indication of MUCH better track forecasts for the near future.

Back from when many were complaining about the center not being directly under the CDO, those people gave the storm little chance of developing. So it was just a little sarcastic satircal comment

Thanks, Stormchaser. I appreciate the delicious irony. Wow, Alex, what a guy!

Far more studly than any of us could have even imagined. I had that bad boy pegged out at about 60 Kt.

I look at that pic, I think donut. I'm starting to get hungry.

It's all Alex's fault!

I loved Hurricane hunting, and I am proud of my C-130, and I am hoping to fly into ALEX when it becomes extratropical, just hope some members believe me, because i will fly into ALEX, again! today i looked to the south and saw high, thin cirrus clouds, ALEX was not far away from my grasp. I was a proud hurricane hunter once, and I had many friends in the field, and still do, they helped me get the C-130, and helped me restore it. My first storm was FIFI, and i was there when she was reborn as ORLENE. I was there when the "Perfect Storm" threatened us( I flew from Grace into the Sable Island low.) and I was in the storm affectionately known as "Tropical storm Santa." So I have a varied history.

I'm not sure that I've ever seen a storm that outdid every single prediction on strength. There are always some people who vastly overrate the potential of this or that system, but Alex has put a breath of fresh air into the discussion of storms, and hopefully we can learn from his lesson.

I have a sneaking suspicion, however, that people will just call Al a fluke, and move on.

I will say it will go upwards to 130 mph with in the next 12 hours!!! Then start turning extratropical around 24 to 36 hours as it moves north of 40 north into colder water.

yep...Annular or "donut like" hurricane which is characterized by little or no outer rainbands, is extremely symmetric in appearance w/ a LARGE eye structure and almost perfect ring of evenly distributed convection concentrated around the eye.

Isabel was a Annular hurricane! But I thought Annular hurricanes where very powerful hurricanes, not cat3s but cat4s or cat5?

Indeed, I said 90 mph. You INSISTED THAT WAS TOO HIGH and that 85 mph was better. Then, it even tricked me with 100 mph. THEN IT TRICKED all of us by intensifying EVEN further than ANY OF US EVER EXPECTED... 120 mph.

First Hurricane this intense this far North at 40 degrees. Just heard that on TWC. What might that mean for season? Intense Cane landfall in the NE perhaps? Water would seem to support it.

What if ALEX merges with this cold front, and low pressure?

#1179 Postby HalloweenGale » Thu Aug 05, 2004 8:21 am

Think Perfect storm 2, but I doubt it. what do you all think?
