I wanted to add that the electricity has been off and on and the local weather reporter said they had 78 mph winds on or near IOP.
Are my fellow Charlestonians without electricity now?

According to Dvorak it's a hurricane, according to the NHC it still 4 miles away from reaching that category.

It doesn't even compare to Charley here. The wind is much much worse. IT smells like a pine forest outside.

THe winds up here also much worse than CHarley ... sustained winds of 25-30 mph, gusts to occasionally tropical storm force near 40 mph ... airport officially 46 mph at 8:00 am, with sustained 33 MPH ... actually strange, WATERFRONT park 44 mph gust, sustained 26 mph ... but that was at 8 am ... it's much stronger now at Waterfront Park ...

If you don't HAVE to go, I wouldn't. Tropical Storm Force winds with squalls isn't my idea of good driving weather.

WHY!!! why can't they just make him a hurricane? This is just like Erike, or whatever that storm was last year that hit Texas. It shouldve been a hurricane but it wasn't!

Except in about 200 Bastardi Column whines over the next 5 years. (Haven't checked this morning, though.)

The weather may be unpredictable, but he isn't. You can count on him to mean lady and moan that every strong TS landfall was actually a hurricane.

I really dislike the fact that there was no reconaissance investigation just prior to moving inland. This is just unbelievable. I can't remember the last time that a tropical cyclone has made landfall in the UNITED STATES without official observations from the storm's center for 12 hours!

oh my lord... let's turn every thread into a bashfest.

Anyways, ummm... look at the charleston radar. The advisory says landfall @ midday. I think it will probably occur within... say... the hour???
