Perfect looking donut. You are right. NOT what you want to see. Still a good amount of time to intensify. A high end CAT 1 is not out of the question, or mid level CAT 2.

Definitely ramping up now. Strange that the pressure rose, apparently.

I am only a tropical weather enthusiast. My predictions are not official and may or may not be backed by sound meteorological data. For official information, please refer to the NHC and NWS products.

Interesting to see the core bleed off all of the moisture from the feeder bands and attempting to consolidate all of the energy.

It shows more deepening than most guidance, hence the higher wind gusts. Shows 962 at landfall.

Dual hot towers are firing to the East and West of the warm core feature at the center of Zeta. Likely indicative of strengthening.

While the waters get colder, I would not discount the ideal upper level conditions. Baroclinic forcing and ventilation will likely allow it to strengthen and maintain intensity even in suboptimal conditions

Looks like it's really ramping up now on IR :double: Has a chance to make a run for Cat 2 before landfall

New hot towers firing in the NE quad should close the eyewall off if not already closed. When does the next plane go in? I doubt this is still a tropical storm.

This should be upgraded at the next advisory the way it's looking now

AF309 enroute to Zeta.

My guess is they'll find a hurricane.

I think that's the one that stopped transmitting a few hours ago. Are they sending it out again?

Really is fascinating watching the evolution of Zeta on an IR loop today as that great big spiral band gradually shrinks and the previously anemic CDO fires back up.

Yeah, you're right. Stopped transmitting at 21:39 UTC.

It's the Air Force recon mission. They are always AF30X format

I think it is a modified C130 for hurricane hunting and is Air Force (AF). The other are Navy P3's and some other higher altitude
recon aircraft.

Multiple rotating hot towers now present around the center of circulation, I would be shocked if this was not intensifying at this point.

The structure of Zeta is excellent. Upper level winds are very conducive for strengthening. If these hot towers keep building, watch out.
