1. Unemployment will reach 10 percent.

2. The stock market will begin a low recovery in the spring. There will be little if any benefit to the average American though.

3. Oil will stabilize at between $40 and $45 a barrel. Falling demand and OPEC production cuts counter each other.

4. The goverment (TSA) will adopt regulations that prevent many convicted felons from traveling by air. Sex offenders and those with a propensity for violence are targeted.

5. Two US military members on death row will finally exhaust their appeals and will be executed.

6. A rare hurricane hits San Diego late in the summer.

7. NWS forecasters think their models are on crack when they show a monster storm forming of Florida and raking the east coast in April. The models turn out to be right, and torrential rains and wind gusts to 100 mph pound the coast from the Carolinas thru New England. Damage is in the billions of dollars and many popular seaside tourist areas are too heavily damaged to open for the summer.

8. After a mild january and february much of the eastern US plunges into a deep freeze in early March with temperatures in the 20's reported as far south as Jacksonville FL with low temps near zero in the mid altlantic.

Here are mine for 2009:

1. Many more people will realize that The Great Depression II is occurring and worsening

2. Fidel Castro will not die this year either

3. A major hurricane will make landfall on the US mainland coastline somewhere as a category 5, the first time since Andrew

4. Michael Jackson will get back in the news after a major quiet period since 2005

5. Oil prices very slowly drop throughout the year to $20 and gas prices continue to fall to everyone's amazement

6. Hyperinflation of the Dollar starts for America

7. Riots get worse all around the world as the depression deepens. Europe will have many and some small ones will start in North America near the end of 2009

8. Another Canadian election will be called and Canadians will continue to get more angry

9. A flurry of political scandals will emerge in 2009 and will seem like every week will have one (US)

I hope I'm wrong in most of these points.

Well, you'll lose that prediction. You clearly don't know him as well as I do. hmm... he has some good connections. Maybe you'll get arrested for suggesting such a thing about his southerngale. Image

Speaking of arrests, I only have one prediction... cat5 gets thrown out of Lincoln Financial Field for assaulting Andy Reid.

Here's mine so far;

1) Economy will slowly begin it's rebound in the summer.
2) More severe fluctuations will occur in the market through the spring. One automaker will go bankrupt.
3) A significant movement of troops will be made from Iraq to Afghanistan by the fall.
4) Accountability and restrictions will be put on the next round of bailout money to the financial institutions during the winter.
5) Infrastructure projects such as roads and bridges will be the first instituted by the government to create more jobs.
6) The Phillies will go to the World Series again (I hope I didn't jinx them).
7) REVISED - There will be two Category 5 hurricanes in the Atlantic basin this summer. None will land as a Category 5 though.
8) One or two casinos in Atlantic City and/or Las Vegas will fail this year.
9) Unemployment benefits will be extended two more times during the first half of 2009.
10) There will be an increase in suicides as more and more people lose their jobs and savings.
11) Stephanie will probably need some kind of dental work done this year, either a filling, cap, etc. - anything other than the regular cleanings. The last several years I've had something.
12) Prince William will become engaged to his girlfriend, Kate Middleton.
13) There will be at least one major snow event (6" plus) for the metropolis of Washington DC through Boston this winter.

I will try some.
1. The stock market will finally find its "bottom" in March and begin a quick then slow steady rebound, but not to the levels it was at.
2. Troops moved to Afghanistan from Iraq will finally capture Osama Bin Laden.
3. There will be at least two Gulf coast TC landfalls, one early and one mid season with the latter being a major, possibly CAT5 somewhere close to the Tampa Bay area.
4. There will be two Atlantic coast TC landfalls this year with one being somewhere between Virginia and Connecticut. Both will be CAT2 or below.
5. The Houston Rockets will finally have all their players healthy and get to the finals, but lose to the Celtics.
6. The Houston Astros will continue to be a slightly above average team.
7. FEMA will be totally gutted and reworked after proving once again with its response to Hurricane Ike that it cannot handle any major disaster in an efficient and helpful way.
8.Fidel Castro will die this year.
9.There will be a major assassination attempt on President Barack Obama.
10. The first West coast hit by a TC in many years will occur.
11. Southerngale's affair with Bon Jovi is finally revealed to the public. She however reconciles with her husband and promises to never do it again. :ggreen: :ggreen:
There may be more, but that is enough for now.

13. The Pakistani/Indian conflict will escalate into at least a border skirmish with at least on Nuclear bomb detonated.
14. Israel will attack Iran wiping out their nuclear ability.

My predictions:

- The recession will not deteriorate, nor the world economy will completely recover in the year of 2009.
- There will not be any really BREAKING news about American politics. Anything goes normal and almost nothing strange will happen.
- Hugo Chavez will be temporarily ousted in a coup, but he will have chance to restore himself (a repeat of 2002)
- We may see more coup in Africa like Mauritania and Guinea in 2008.
- More Pacific islands will be inhabitated due to environment problem, e.g. some parts of Tuvalu.
- Osama Bin Laden may die, but nobody will know that in a short time.
- We'll see Paraguay and Panama severing diplomatic relations with Taiwan and turn to China, meanwhile, China may lose one or two countries, too.
- At least three head of state will pass away in office (most probably current Equatorial Guinean President)
- Chinese economic growth may slow down significantly.
- However, the article above will not be valid for Fidel Castro. I don't expect his death in 2009, even if he really dies, I'll not be able to witness his death in Cuba (I will return to China in May 30th, 2009)
- China will still be likely to suffer from a great earthquake, but will not be stronger than that of 2008.
- In the West Pacific Basin, JTWC code will reach 24W, but only 21 of them will be recognized by JMA as a tropical storm. 6 of them will make landfall in Chinese mainland (at least 1 will reach north of 30N as with a TS or stronger strength, that is, threat my hometown Qingdao) and another 5 in Taiwan. Both will receive a super typhoon.
- In the Atlantic Basin, I predict 20 (2 TDs)/18/8/5, Eastern Pacific 21 (3 TDs)/18/7/5, Central Pacific 2/2/0/0
- West Sahara problem will be likely solved.
- The relations between Chinese mainland ang Taiwanese authority may deteriorate. There will be another Cross Strait Tension.
- China and Dalai lama will reach, or nearly reach, an agreement.

Above is my prediction, how do you like it? :D

Let me give this a try

1. Charlie Weis will find a way to screw up at ND next eyar, only leaidng the team to an 8-4 record

2. Dow will reach a low of about 2500 by summer

3, America will still be consumed by useless news stories instead of the upcoming war with Iran

4. Speaking of Iran, we will be at war with Iran, and NK will find yet another puppet to give us grief

5. Obama and Congress will clash repeaditly

6. -removed- will still annoy me

7. Season cancel posts will begin as soon as May 25th this season

8. Alberto Contador beats Lance Armstrong by 6 minutes at the Tour de France

9. Buffalo Sabres coach hits a new low by benching leading goal scorer Thomas Vanek when needing a goal to make the playoffs with 5 minutes remaining in the final game

10. Speaking of a new low, IMD reaches it when a cyclone with a Dvorak number of 8.0+ is called a deep depression just before striking the Ganges Delta in May

I think it will never happen. I don't mean to defend for the IMD, but its performance late this year is much better than last year.
