Recent Storm2k Outage

#1 Postby hurricanes1234 » Sat Nov 02, 2013 2:33 pm

I know many, including myself, are curious as to what happened for the past two or three days when Storm2k displayed a 'General Error' upon viewing any thread on the website. Was it something terrible or major that happened? The message said that there was a MySQL error, and that something was wrong with a socket. What does MySQL mean? What took place for the error to have materialised? Is it an error that can happen all the time? I get really depressed when Storm2k is down, especially when a storm or depression is active. :( Thanks.

Search engines are wonderful things:

MySQL officially ( ... ) is (as of July 2013) the world's second most widely used open-source relational database management system (RDBMS).

Basically, it's what makes Forums like this work, but it goes much farther.

I'm guessing either the SQL server crashed or the database itself got corrupted. Both happen. I was just surprised that the root HTML Index Page was never updated with any status messages.

This was by far the longest outage I've ever seen on here. The previous longest was one day I think, this was from late Wednesday to Saturday...a trick for Halloween.

There will be a general announcement made when we have everything worked out. That I promise. We are still dealing with a few issues, but the site is back up and running and that is what is important.

Some topics seem to stay "unread" even after reading them.

I really thought my laptop was infected with some kind of virus that i scanned thoroughly with many virus/malware scanners but found nothing. Then i thought, if i had a virus, why is it that only this website is having problems?

Then i figured that maybe it's the website that was having problems lol

like so many others, i was very depressed and 3 days seems like a year to me...
