Dave Rayner has passed-funeral info added 11/5

#1 Postby vbhoutex » Tue Nov 04, 2014 11:42 pm

It is with great sadness that I must announce that Dave Rayner passed away this evening. He fought a valiant battle against the cancer that ravaged his body, but lost the battle this evening about an hour ago. He was a member of our staff for many years and our go to person for our reconnaissance mission postings. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and there are literally thousands who have been battling and praying with him that he could defeat the cancer.
Please keep his parents, sister, Aunt and Uncle in your thoughts and prayers as they work through this very difficult time.

Services for Dave will be at:
Laws-Carr Funeral Home - Milan
707 S Main Street Box 243
Milan, IN 47031
(812) 654-2141
- See more at: http://www.legacy.com/funeral-homes/ind ... qeX5d.dpuf
Visitation is 6pm-8pm Saturday
Funeral is 2pm Sunday

Cards and/or Memorials can be sent directly to the funeral home or if one chooses to donate to their favorite charity in his memory that would be nice also.

If you would like to send flowers you can use Flowers and Gifts of Love, 812-432-3700. The owner is Cheryl and the hours are 9-5.

I'm still trying to process this and it's hard for me to accept that this has happened to such a fine person. It's hard as a survivor to watch cancer take someone's life. Enjoy your recon missions in heaven Dave.

On behalf of the KHOU Weather Forum where Dave was a member and our first Severe Weather Specialist I extend my deepest sympathy and prayers to his Mom and Dad and many friends across the weather world. Rest easy Cowboy. I will miss you.

My wife whom died at the age of 30 always liked this one and its stuck with me ever since and though I'm as Italian as it gets I still think the Irish said it right:

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

RIP Dave..you will be sadly missed by all of us.

A very sad day indeed. I will miss his wit and banter during hurricane season. Sorely missed, he will be.

I will miss Dave and his recon, but it helps to know he can do all the reconnaissance he wants from the place he's at now. RIP Dave.

Dave truly had a remarkable and positive impact on a number of people who never even met him (face-to-face), such as me. Rest in Peace, Dave. You're with the Lord now.

I was a little bit taken aback by the news yesterday even though I was half expecting the news at any time. Dave was one of the first people on this forum that reached out to me in high school and almost became a mentor of mine for a number of years. As I reached college we had numerous conversations over the years about weather and how he wanted to move to Florida someday. Now I have to wait to meet him some day. It is my belief that the fallstreak cloud the other day was for him and Fallsky Weather. Now he can get a 20/20 vision of recon wherever he is. He will be missed, but I know he will be with everyone on this forum for many years to come. RIP and without pain my friend.

Very sad news indeed.

I was looking into my forum PM box and found some old messages from Dave dated years ago. A few times we talked about personal matters.
In one he said: "just remember the good memories and forget the bad ones".

I won't forget him.

Oh, no. :(

What can I say that hasn't already been said about the Cowboy?

At ease, Dave. Rest in the arms of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, with the Mother, the Saints, and all of your friends and ancestors that have also passed on to a just reward.
