Mechanic Sucked Into Jet Engine, Killed    !!!

POSTED: 7:44 pm EST January 16, 2006

EL PASO, Texas -- A mechanic died Monday after being sucked into a Continental Airlines jet engine at El Paso International Airport.

Houston-based Continental said the accident involving Flight 1515 happened during a maintenance check before takeoff to Houston's Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The plane was a Boeing 737-500 with 114 passengers and five crew members.

A spokeswoman for the National Transportation Safety Board said there had been an earlier problem with the No. 2 engine, so the engine cowlings were open.

She said a mechanic walked in front of the engine and was pulled into it.

The victim's identity wasn't immediately released.

It's a terrible thing, but it would likely be very very quick.

That is very awful. And as wxmann 91 said being ripped to shreds is just a horrible thought. Almost as bad as the guy who jumped from a bridge overpass here yesterday into the middle of interstate traffic, he was ripped in 2 after being ran over by 4 vehicles. A horrible way to go. :18: :18:

Ever since I read this article and now see the topic on S2K, I cannot get this poor man's horrific end out of my mind. The terror he must have felt but like someone said, it was over fast. That's a good thing. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family......so sad.

It would be a most interesting way to go. Just imagine the last few seconds, or even microseconds of your life, being ripped apart. Poor guy probably didnt even know what happened it was so quick.

I saw a gal intentionally walk into a prop arc when I was stationed at McChord. It was horrible.
