So in summary:

Recon. finds 52 knot winds (blowing from the NW).
Recon. finds a robust due west wind at 40 mph.
Recon. finds a spot of nearly calm winds at 23.9N, 85.8W.
Recon. finds a warm-core temp. profile.

If they don't upgrade, they'll have to contravene all those things for the sake of satellite presentation.

Yep, but I doubt that they'll use the Dvorak estimates, given that the last TWO mentioned that only a slight increase of organization would lead to the formation of a (S)TC.

Even at 0.65 reduction, 52 knots is 40 mph!

The 52-kt wind report was very near the exact location of the SHIP report at 1800 UTC of 49.9 knot winds from the east and 1005 mb.
Therefore, even without much convection to "mix" the winds to the surface, there may be a pretty good correlation of flight level to surface winds.

Definitely a tropical storm, probably 50 mph.

It might have been a tropical storm since last night without knowing and we might have had 2 storms before the gun fired...

NONAME? A tropical depression or waiting for the call?
