160 mph officially, could have been stronger though. No recon meassured landfall intensity, it was based on sat. pics.

That is an exceptionally rare and beautiful picture, though one wonders how exactly the man survived long enough to take it.

I was calling for this slowdown too...well actually all credit should be given to the GFDL hurricane model. It nailed the slowdown and I trusted it enough to predict it.

Check out the blog entry, it was taken from an Air Force recon plane (NOT during the aborted mission).

Uh no it wasn't, that was from an Air Force plane, the aborted mission was an NOAA P3.

Thanks for the info... I looked back a few pages, I can't believe how this thing bombed again before going ashore. I hope for the best, although I am expecting the worst for the people in that area

That pic of the eyewall is awesome

That picture is absolutely incredible! I can't even begin to imagine what it must have been like to fly into the eye and then witness the eyewall alight with intense lightning. Must have been out of this world!

At first I thought someone had taken this from the ground but then I saw the plane propeller in the bottom of the picture. It is an awesome picture.

There is a very large rainband affecting the Honduras now and it looks really juicy. There is a lot of red on the AVN for it.

I have tried posting the pic twice and cannot get it to post - does anyone else see it? I can go to the web page but can't get it to show here for some reason.

Looks for me like a lot of fractus clouds, not more.

We have not heard anything yet from my wife's family in Honduras. They live in San Pedro Sula. I hope to hear something today.

San Pedro Sula is well outside Felix's significant wind field. I'm seeing reports of only 5-10 kt winds there. But there's a big band of rain moving in shortly. Rainfall will be the threat there. It'll be a lot worse near Felix's core tonight, though.

Last thing the people down there need is for Felix to slow down. That only means more rain for them. I did't think Felix would regain Cat-5 again but he did. Yes, those are incredible pictures taken from the Hurricane Hunters.....MGC
