I can try to take pictures throughout the next couple of days and post from South AL. (Mobile Bay) I don't have a webcam but my camera does a pretty good job of recording.

The system has just been classified as a sub-tropical system. If it doesn't reach tropical storm status we should still be concerned about heavy rains; some wind and the biggest threat would be possible tornadoes(sp?)? Any chance this system will reach tropical storm status? My local ABC TV affiliate here in Biloxi has just announced that our area is under a TS warning. I wonder if whatever's out there will reach TS Bill status?

I'd say those chances are better than average. In fact, I've gone with a moderate tropical storm all along. Tornadic activity is a given with landfalling tropical systems, though it remains to be seen exactly what will happen for us in that regard. NWS-Jackson states that tornadic activity is possible along and south of the I-20 corridor, but more likely along and south of the Highway 84 corridor.

But you don't see this system reaching CAT 1 hurricane status do you because of it's close proximity to land?

Keeping in mind that I represent no official forecasting agency or Storm 2K.....

I think is doubtful at best, though it isn't outside the realm of possibility. There are several inhibiting factors at play.

Hey, good news. We are (more) prepared in New Orleans. But it's a secret!

City may open storm shelters but won't say where
Posted by The Times-Picayune September 21, 2007 12:16PM
Mayor Ray Nagin said Friday morning that if winds associated with a tropical depression heading toward New Orleans reach 35 to 40 mph, he will call for New Orleans residents living in trailers to evacuate the temporary homes.

Nagin said the city will open shelters as a last resort for trailer dwellers who cannot seek refuge in their partially rebuilt homes, or with friends or relatives.

The mayor said city officials have identified the shelter locations, but he refused to say where they are or how many shelters will be available.

"We'll give you that list if we need it," Nagin said.

Still not much here in Destin, the center is only around 80 miles SSE of my location. Were getting a few off and on sprinkles and winds 15-25mph.

High school football schedules for tonight:

cancelled-
all games involving Santa Rosa County Schools and Escamiba County (FL) schools

still on:
Niceville-Choctawhatchee
Baker-South Walton
Walton High's homecoming game is still on though the parade has been cancelled

Unless we get a tornado out of this, it's looking pretty uneventful for the western Panhandle

After picking the girls up from school we rode down to the Bay (Mobile Bay) Fairhope Big Pier. This is what it looked like outside. The wind was just picking up and the clouds were getting darker.

From the Mobile area:
We had a passing shower about the time school was dismissing. It's a bit windy (12-14 MPH acc. to NWS website). On the noon news, they reported that they are opening one shelter at a high school in the southern part of the county-- mostly for folks who are still in FEMA trailers. One of the on-camera meteorologists stated that the worst of our weather should happen from midnight onward. High school football games are still on, according to the announcements at school this afternoon. So, we watch and wait.

The only games that they have moved up is the Spanish Fort game. I haven't heard about the rest of the high school games in Baldwin or Mobile County. Didn't they open Theodore High as a shelter? I will see if I can find out.

Up on the top on the floater they have high school games cancellations, shelters opening, etc.

Yeah, Theodore is the one they opened. And they announced at the end of the day at school that the football games were all still on, at least in Mobile County.

Here is the link about the shelter in Mobile County

http://www.myfoxgulfcoast.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail?contentId=4423861&version=3&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=1.1.1

Here are the high school games that have been canceled or rescheduled.

Impending bad weather along the Mississippi, Florida and Alabama coast has forced the cancellation or postponement of several South Mississippi high school football games on Friday night. The Escambia County, Florida school system has cancelled all extra-curricular activities for tonight, that includes high school football games.

* The Biloxi at Pensacola Escambia football game has been cancelled.
* The Stone -Harrison Central football game at Lyman will not be played Friday night but there is a possibility of it being rescheduled.
* Three region games have been postponed as of Friday morning: Pearl River Central at D'Iberville, Long Beach at Poplarville and Purvis at Pass Christian.
* The Pearl River Central-D'Iberville game, which is homecoming for D'Iberville, has been reset for Monday at 5:30 p.m.

FOX10tv.com will continue to update this list as we receive more information.

Beachbum: Thanks for posting the link to the news story about the shelters. It's great to see that they are actually putting into action the plan to use school buses to take those without transportation to the shelter.
