Need help with Whirlpool dishwasher-almost had a fire

#1 Postby angelwing » Thu Nov 13, 2008 7:15 pm

My hubby just callled me, he said that he smelled something really bad coming from the kitchen, when he checked everything he noticed smoke coming from the dishwasher, when he opened it he said that the top to the tea kettle melted on the heating element and there was a bunch of smoke. He's running it thru a cycle now to see if it cleans up some, but in case it doesn't does anyone know how to clean the black off? I told him that the top is plastic (it's one of those glass tea kettles with a black top, a whistler)and he says it isant but right now I just want to know how to clean it. We just moved into this rental on the 4th of Nov.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

I haven't had anything melt on the heating element in years. *crosses fingers* I would suggest calling whirlpool customer service at 1-866-698-2538 and see if they can assist you with how to clean the heating element. Good thing your husband was there to handle it.

Yeah, I called whirlpool and they said they can't help to get a tech, so I googled and found out a few things, got the old man to reheat the dishwasher and once it was softened he was supposed to use an *old* rag to get it off, he uses one of the new ones I bought for Christmas (mumble, mumble, mumble) but all that's left is a little black spot and he ran it this AM and it seems to be ok.

Thanks for the help!
