Re: Another Major Flare
For those who dont know a whole lot about solar flares,in simple terms, what effects on this planet we live in may occur?

Don't more sun spots mean hotter temperatures or something bass ackwards like that? Also couldn't this explain global warming and the different amount carbon in the air during different periods. Is this one of those place that will ban for questioning mm global warming? Not trying to start a political thread just asking question to be better informed, sorry if this is out of bounds.

Re: Another Major Flare
In this particular case, beyond some SID activity during the flare we are not expecting anything. Not to worry, as those who were around for the last max know, I put out some rather detailed forecasts when I expect significant geophysical effects from a Flare. During Solar max, Solar luminosity increases somewhat. We are still trying to sort out the Solar factor in the whole climate change puzzle. No, you won't get banned for questioning the premise of AGW if you present a decent argument. You will, however, probably get dissed by some who feel that doing so is akin to the Original Sin. There are some real nimrods on both sides of the debate

You should read the thread we have about the "Climate Gate" scandal emails, it is in the Global Forum (you have to go thru the gf to get to here)

Yes, to a certain extent.
Also couldn't this explain global warming and the different amount carbon in the air during different periods.
Not really, no. The evidence for this answer is that there isn't a pronounced 11 year signal in the global temperature anomaly. Also, a cyclical forcing can't cause a trend longer than the length of the cycle.

Absolutely not. However we do require that discussions be about the science, not speculations or rants about political motives, etc.
