Endeavour causes alarm in Central America

#1 Postby Macrocane » Mon Feb 22, 2010 10:22 pm

Yesterday at 9:00 pm (local time) the Endeavour passed right over Central America skies and caused alarm in El Salvador and Honduras, an explosion was heard and the people saw a fireball on the sky, we are not used to see this kind of events so there was a lot of rumours.

Unfortunately I couldn't see the Endevour but I heard the noise, and I thought it was an explosion or something similar, and my parents thought that someone had hit their head with the wall

In both countries the media and the government institutions received a lot of phone calls asking for explanations, at the end everything was made claer and it ended up being a nice experience for the witnesses.

Here is the link in Spanish to a Salvadoran newspaper site with the info: http://www.elsalvador.com/mwedh/nota/nota_completa.asp?idCat=8613&idArt=4542842

And this one is the link to a Honduran newspaper: http://www.tiempo.hn/secciones/el-pais/11233-aterrizaje-del-endeavour-provoca-conmocion-en-honduras

And here is a link of a video taken in El Salvador:

They thought that it was a meteorite or a "NASA thing", and the girl at the end says "I'm scared" :)

I'm a little surprised this hasn't happened before. glad it was cleared up quickly so people weren't freaking out too long wondering what was going on.
