Earthquake felt in Guadeloupe and in the islands of the NorthB.C. franceantilles.fr 30.04.2013

:rarrow: http://www.microsofttranslator.com/bv.a ... 215552.php

Indeed, the earth shook during the night of Monday to Tuesday, just before 3 pm! This is confirmed by the Observatory volcanological and seismological Guadeloupe OVSG himself through a first preliminary report released on the morning of Tuesday. It reported an earthquake of tectonic origin that have reached a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale and already as "important."

Apparently, its epicenter would at sea, 49 km in depth, an area located 88 km from the coast of Saint-Barthélemy (Sector East / Southeast).
On this island, the shaking would have arrived at wake up many residents without however being able to cause visible damage on the buildings and infrastructure. Guadeloupe, yet situated 250 km to the South, she also felt some ground movement. Was particularly the case in sectors of Anse-Bertrand, Port-Louis, Sainte-Rose, Deshaies, Petit-Canal, Morne-à - water as well as in several buildings of the pointoise agglomeration.

The earth shook this morning North of Peninsula Paria, Trinidad, where we note no big damage. The magnitude of the earthquake was 4.1 °.

No damage
The earthquake took place today at 10AM56 North of the Paria peninsula, at a depth of 54 kilometres. It is probably this depth that has protected Trinidad where we note No big damage. The archipelago of Trinidad has over 1.6 million citizens.

Strong Magnitude 6.4 Earthquake in Trinidad and Tobago

#196 Postby hurricanes1234 » Sat Oct 12, 2013 7:35 am

Late on Friday 11th October, a powerful magnitude 6.4 earthquake was felt in my country of Trinidad and Tobago. In our street, it was intense enough to cause a prolonged blackout for about 4 hours. It was the strongest I ever felt in my entire life, and definitely the strongest in quite some years. The epicenter was north of Venezuela. The earthquake itself lasted for between 10 and 30 seconds. Here is the link to the UWI Seismic Center's report on it.

Sorry, but I just realised I posted it in the wrong forum. Could it be moved to the Astronomy and Geology section or wherever is preferred? Thanks.

Maybe this was the release of pressure along that transform boundary. Just less than two hours after the main earthquake, an aftershock occurred, but it was much smaller. Never felt any earthquake like that in my life.
