Thanks to keep us informed Macrocane, we appreciate. Glad to see that there's no deads, injuries and very strong damages! No doubts this year since January the earth is showing us that we're nothing...

Has there been a definite uptick in seismic activity in the Caribbean basin and Eastern Pacific rim areas or is this just more and better reporting?

Well, I can tell that at least in the Pacific coast of El Salvador and Guatemala the seismic activity has increased on the last month. Just to give an example of the activity in El Salvador:

-According to the SNET (El Salvador geological survey) on November and December 2009 there were 10 sensible earthquakes in the country (5 each month). That was normal activity, one quake per week is normal in El Salvador.
- From January 1 to January 17 2010, no earthquakes were felt in the country.
- From January 18 to January 31, seven earthquakes were felt, including one of a 6.0 magnitude.
- From Febraury 1 to February 11, five earthquakes have been felt.

As you can see in less than a month (from January 18 to February 11) in El Salvador we've had 12 quakes and we're on mid february and it is likely that more quakes are going to occur.

For Honduras, I can say that it is the 2nd least seismic country of Central America (Belize being the 1st) but since the 7.3 earthquake that occured on May 2009 the activity in the Caribbean coast of that country has increased but I'm not sure how much.

In conclusion, the data seems to confirm that the seismic activity on the Caribbean and Central America has increased.
