Celestial Navigation Data for 2012 May 20 at 23:59:10 UT
Almanac Data
Object.....GHA..........Dec
SUN........180 38.8....N20 13.3
MOON......180 38.8....N20 39.5

This position is just West of Hawaii. Hawaii is not on or near an active plate boundary. Hawaii has a system of faults related to plate volcanism in the region, but there is no recent history of major astronomically induced activity. One issue of note is that apogee is May 19 16:14 406450 km -- N-1d 7h which could pop the global earthquake frequency up to 70.

Another issue is the eclipse. The thing with a visible eclipse is that the line of observation is the same as the moon sun line. This is the same as the line of greatest force. See http://i46.tinypic.com/10ctgs8.jpg from Somethingfunny’s eclipse post.

Earth being so small relative to the distance to the sun any moon sun line that passes across the earth’s surface increases the tidal force by 5 percent.

Then by this Graph http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/6374 ... uakes2.jpg increased gravational force is counter-indicitive of increased earthquake frequency the global earthquake count for Saturday May 19 would be maybe 64 instead of 70.
