Total Solar Eclipse: Post images/Videos of surroundings,traffic,eclipse

I plan on arriving in Santee the night before(I reserved 8 rooms for family and friends exactly 1 year in advance when reservations opened up). The motel is a little over a mile from the Lake Marion which I hope to walk onto the old I95 bridge which is now a fishing pier. Another possibility is joining up with http://www.lowcountrystargazers.org/p/ec.html at Moncks corner. This would allow me to avoid the I95 rush after the eclipse by using Rt 52 to Florence.

Interesting because I plan to be in Santee the day before as well. My alternative is to go to McClellanville. Read my posts from earlier. I like your alternative as well because I am very familiar with Moncks Corner. My father contracted work from there back in the early 80s and I frequently met up with him there. Moncks Corner would be an excellent alternative indeed in the totality path.

This area really can't handle the crowds (if they materialize). I'm really hoping for a multi-day cloud event around here where they can say with certainty 'it will be overcast' so people will stay away from this area.

Well, we have our first very long range glimpse of the weather on Eclipse Day, courtesy of the GFS above. Thanks Cycloneye for posting it.

I prefer to wait once we get inside of two weeks of the event to get a better hint of how things will be as we get closer to the event.

I will wait to elaborate more about this in a few more days from now. However, this extreme long range snapshot run posted above now really is letting this sink in now that we are just 16 days away from this awesome spectacle of a lifetime!

Fingers crossed for decent weather in SC, as I will be going there to see the eclipse.

WeatherGuesser, yeah that is an extremely unique thing happening to Carbondale, IL. They will be on the centerline of the path of totality for this solar eclipse on August 21, and for the one coming again to the United States in 2024. How lucky that is for that town. The odds of that happening have to have been absurdly very high against that is for sure!!

12z GFS for August 21 at 312 hours show clouds in parts of SC but is still long range and this will change a lot.
