Just popped up on NRL. 3.4S 66.7E, 15kt / 1010mb

This is about 480mi NW of Diego Garcia or about 700mi SW of Malé, Maldives.

While a May tropical cyclone isn't unusual here (2002 had two SHem tropical cyclones from the same origin), I don't see this developing. It's way too close to the equator in my opinion, and it looks a little split up.

I fully concur. I'm not fully sure why it was "upgraded" to invest status.
