I said nothing would surprise me about Bertha, but that might.

I refuse to rule it out though

Satellite suggests that ETT is occurring or imminent.

Does anyone know if there has been a storm that's made impact on Iceland directly Tropical or Extratropical? Seems like this would be another Record for Hurricane Bertha. Certainly has been an interesting fish to watch.

How many of the pro mets think that Bertha will be retired after this year even though it never did make direct land fall? How many days has this storm been classified now? 19?

Hurricane Dorothy in 1966 was a 70-knot hurricane above 40°N, by the way, in answer to an earlier question.

It won't be retired since it only brushed Bermuda.

and it formed on July 3rd.

I'm not a pro met, but only one country could possibly request retirement here, Bermuda. Which they're not going to.

Don't need a pro met to tell you the chances are zero.

As much as she tried to find her way to the :Can:, she most likely is not headed there.

In fact the idea is, at the least, laughable and ludicrous.

Klaus and Fabian never made landfall while active, so it's not inconceivable for a non-landfaller to be retired, but both Klaus and Fabian were, in fact, very damaging to their respective locations (Martinique and Bermuda). Bertha hardly even matches up to Klaus, in either deaths or damages. In other words, as far as retirement goes, Bertha's got a job to do in 2014.

Looks like the last advisory as a TC has been issued. The next adv should be the last:

PHASE
SPACE ANALYSES FROM FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY USING THE GFS FORECAST
FIELDS INDICATE THAT BERTHA WILL BECOME AN EXTRATROPICAL CYCLONE
VERY SOON...PROBABLY NOT LONG AFTER 1200 UTC TODAY.
