CNN reported one spot in Taiwan received over 40 inches of rain in 24 hours. That would surely rival some of the world's daily records. I'm not sure of the source, but it seems possible given the intensity of the convection over Taiwan yesterday.

I believe there was a place in Madagascar that got a lot more than that in 24 hours and holds the world record. I don't remember the number though.

I found it. It was in Reunion (which is a small island east of Madagascar).

Between 15 and March 16, 1952, Cilaos at the centre of Réunion received 1,869.9 mm (73.6 in) of rainfall. This is the greatest 24-hour precipitation total ever recorded on earth. The island also holds the record for most rainfall in 72 hours, 3,929 mm (154.7 in) at Commerson's Crater in March, 2007.
