I agree Derek, sometimes the SFMR is off but given everything I see no reason to doubt its validity this time round.
Also yep the center has become much better stacked as has been mentioned in the last post.

The pressure will likely bounce around a little bit (wasn't it 985 earlier?) as the centers stack up...how much longer does this flight have, and when does the next one go out?

I believe they were to continue with 3 hour fixes up until land fall.

Good thing that after Dolly makes landfall tomorrow we will have some time to recuperate. Covering the reports and doing the Google maps can be tiresome after three storms in a row. I hope that like in 2003 we can get a break after the D storm.

Let the fun continue tonight and tomorrow! If the current activity continues until the end, then we will have a lot of fun.

The AF plane should be leaving when the NOAA plane gets in there. I don't see a need to have both obs in the recon thread at the same time.

Latest VDM shows the pressure has dropped to 984mb. But the eye still remains slightly tilted, which is probably we aren't seeing this storm go through rapid intensification yet.

Dropsonde: 984mb splashed into 10 kt winds. That would be 983mb actual pressure I believe.

Yeah Crazy thats probably around 983mbs which is about where the extrap pressure estimated in the last center pass.

Anyway NOAA plane currently heading towards the outer edges of the CDO, should see the winds increase quite a lot from the obs from that plane.

This TEAM coverage of active recon is the very best I have ever seen - AWESOME job guys!!!

Can anyone share a link for the GE file that shows wind barbs?

I have the day off tomorrow, so I can help with HDOBS or GE plots.... just let me know - these shifts can be long - I know (I worked on plots for Dean's landfall last year).

The Air Force plane turned around for a bit. I'm not so sure they aren't possibly trying to determine the tropical storm force wind field so they can adjust that in a future advisory.

They probably are skimming the 35 knot region, yes...but as far as penetrations? They are most likely done, and will be heading home very shortly.

Are they seriously going to send both in at the same time, on the same heading? Yikes...
