I cant believe how close those planes are and that they are going the same direction.

don't worry... we are in constant communication with ATC and the other planes.... so no worries.... it has happened before.

During Hurricane Rita on 9/22, there were 4 planes in the storm at once

1 AF
1 Navy
2 NOAA (I was on N43 that day)

I remember - that was WAY too much data for me to follow - I bet the radios were as busy as a beaver!

I live near an "Airport" too, it is called Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point...it just seems odd that they'd both be flying in at the same time on the same course, almost directly above each other.

Sorry about that, a little bug popped up. The time on the URNT15 message is recorded on my site based on the first time in the message. The message though was dated with tomorrow's date, so my system thought that we jumped ahead 24 hours and then back. Confusing, but I'm working on fixing it so it doesn't happen tomorrow night too.

Question about this VDM. Why would the maximum temperature be found outside the eye?

There was about an hour between the last Air force center fix and the most recent NOAA center fix. In that hour the center moved 1.26 miles due west

the outbound flight level obs is not in here .. of 71 kts

They still need to correct that vortex for time, so maybe then they will add it.

Latest data supports 70 kt and 980mb.

That's correct, the winds still haven't caught up - they support 70 kt right now. 978mb was just extrapolated from the AF plane.
