That's 4 named storms, isn't it?

Arthur was in May/June.
Quite right. As I was taking a shower just now, I thought to myself, "Ed Mahmoud was talking about just July not the entire season."

I was kinda hoping no one would catch my error before I could rush out of the shower to log back on and correct it! LOL

All convection is about 400 miles NNE of the tiny low-level vortex near 19N/49W. The vortex won't do anything. Any development would be where the convection is, and that's heading off to the north.

Abajan, do you always think about S2K when you're in the shower?

I think this wont develop at all, unless a new LLC forms under the convection. The present LLC continues to be very far from convection.

This one looks shot. The Atlantic isn't as active as I thought it was.

Is Dolly considered a Cape Verde hurricane if the wave originates in Africa? I was thinking of 97L and this question popped into my head :spam:

I don't know the exact longitude cut off for being a Cape Verde system, but waves have to develop w/i a certain proximity. African waves that don't develop until the Caribbean don't qualify.

The term "Cape Verde storm" refers to the area of formation, not the point of origin. I believe that to qualify, a wave must develop east of 40W. Dolly doesn't qualify, even though it did originate from an African Easterly Wave. And neither would 97L now, as it's at 50W.

97L has some kind of mid or upper circulation, well Northeast of the convectionless low cloud swirl, up near 27º and heading North.

Not sure that'll ever develop, but it already sleeps with Lucca Brazzi.

Is 97L still an invest?

See it on NRL page, but it seems awfully lonely.

99.75 hours left until it has the chance to become a TC in my mind. The NHC's statement "DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS" is in line with my prediction now.

Now down to 48 hours left before this even has a chance at tropical cyclone formation in my mind. The NHC has started to talk about it again which seems right on track!

My prediction on Tuesday that this will not develop in the next 120 hours has verified.

My next prediction: This will never become a tropical cyclone.

Time to catch up on your research, I guess. Mow the lawn. Wash the car.

BTW, what in the wide, wide world of sports and tropical cyclones is your research focused on?

That part I knew. I've just got a funny feeling there is enough stuff to do with tropical cyclones that people could actually specialize.

Back at UT, the doctoral students and post docs in petroleum and geosystems engineering all had their own area of specialization. Most were from other countries, but a few of the Venezuelan students socialized, and there was a PhD student from Oklahoma, American guy, that passed out drinking with us on Sixth Street. He was researching acoustic measurement of differing flow regimes of gases and liquids in pipe systems. We got him home safely.

He works in the Netherlands now for a large Anglo-Dutch oil company, and seems completely respectable.
