It was clear this morning - not a cloud in the sky. Now we're getting the pink-tinted cumulus clouds with haze that mean tropical weather. It's going to get fun!

Or just subscribe to my photo feed. I'll be updating it through the storm, as the situation allows.

My son just called me and SW Louisiana residents aren't taking chances it appears. He is in Carlyss, LA right now and said that it looks like a mass exodus out of Hackberry, LA which in along the Gulf Coast region. There was a voluntary evacuation requested this morning of lower Cameron Parish. I've already received a text message as well as a phone call from the Office of Homeland Security and Office of Emergency Prepardness warning to keep a close eye on this system and tornadoes that often occur with these systems. I just drove in front of Wal Mart and the gas lines were going in every direction. It's dangerously hot and a little windy at the current time.

We just had a phone call letting us know that DH's appointment at MD Anderson was canceled for Tuesday. M. D. Anderson will be closed for all out-patient procedures. He is a little disappointed as tomorrow was suposed to be his last radiation/chemo day.

First feeder band about to come on in. I'm looking at a very dark sky approaching from the east and southeast here in Vermilion Parish. Winds seem to have picked up a bit.

People Conditions :): Two gas stations without gas in Orange, Texas. Lines at most all of the others. Walmart out of bottled water. Local grocery store had plenty though.

Weather conditions: HOT, HOT, HOT! Slightly breezy with clouds rolling in slowly.

I was just watching Weather Channel a little bit ago and *gasp* they were actually showing weather for once. Anyway, they mentioned that Galveston's mayor won't evacuate the city unless they are expecting a cat 3. Such a bad idea discounting the ability of storms to strengthen to forecasters dismay in the gulf. They are going to get burned bad one day. I'm not expecting Ed go get his act together that fast, but some other one might.

The storm is getting alot closer to the LA Coast...it appears to be moving very slowly N/NW....Bob Breck is on live and he states that it clearly has turned, at least for now...we are getting reports of very heavy rain moving further inland and even closer to New Orleans. We just had an outer squall line that came through. It was very heavy, as well. Either way, this system isn't that strong of a storm...so it doesn't really matter where it hits, IMO.

The center reformed under the convection. It will continue to move west/wnw.

Went to Walmarts in both Orange and Vidor, Texas this morning to build up even more what I already had. I won't do that at the last minute ever again in Orange. It was HORRIBLE. People were rude and would reach in and grab something right in front of you, no excuse me's, dirty looks. Shelves were EMPTY. I feel for those that had to wait til they got off work to try to fight that crowd for nothing. I knew I should have gone last night. Had to go to Home Depot to find batteries, a weather radio (which was on sale for CHEAP) and water. Gas stations all over the area are packed and a lot of the pumps are out. Went to Dollar Tree and saw a case of water... got to the counter and the cashier was laughing and said, "You know these are $12, right? hahaha" I just laughed and was like yeah, ok. Well, he pulled out that little hand clicker and started clickin away on that case... I asked the other cashier what was he doing...she said, "He's ringing it up. There's 24 bottles." I told her I thought he was joking and she said, "Ma'am, this is no joking matter." Wow. $12 for a case of water. I told them to keep it.

Anyway... it's crazy here. I can't imagine how it is in Houston.

It's still REALLY hot here ad not much of a wind at all. Some clear sky and some pretty clouds.

This will be my 1st direct hit since Charley of '04. I hope my power stays on long enough to report something. Right now it's just cloudy with light winds blowing Westish.

Just came back in from outside. In the medical center area. Hardly a leaf or a twig so much as moving. You can see some nice lines of cirrus clouds moving through with the sunset. Gas station pumps all in use, but no real lines per say. People walking their dogs. Putting their cars into their parking garages if they have them. All is very quiet before the storm.

It is a beautiful evening here in Galveston tonight! Hard to believe that I may be experiencing sustained TS force winds and hurricane force gusts tomorrow.
