The current recon flight has been at 200 meters (650 feet) for over two hours now.

because we are trying to find the center so we can fix it, we need to be low since it is a LLC... the lower the better per the NHC

Should be enough to support a 45kts tropical storm, very impressive reports from recon though, pressure estimated at 1002.6 and winds supportive of 45kts at the surface, thats what you call rapid strengthening Humberto style!

Awaiting the VDM, but I'd expect a special advisory soon for Tropical Storm Edouard with 45-50 kt winds.

I checked the recon thread and that is the strangest recon flight pattern I think I have ever seen! Not meaning to make fun but it looks like a very odd butterfly.

I can hardly believe that I checked a while ago and it was TD5 and now we have E!

Just how long can recon stay out there? Or was there two flights and I just missed that part.

Thanks for the answer. It's what I figured.

Thats called an alpha pattern. Its the standard flight path. This flight is scheduled to be in the storm until 8pm ET for a total of 7 hours.

Thank you. I guess the flight time makes sense because the base is so close to the storm.

I am aware of the alpha pattern I just don't remember seeing the pattern run over and over again during the same flight. Guess I wasn't paying enough attention at some point.

A lot of times they only have time for one alpha pattern because of fuel. Since it only took them an hour to get to the storm, they can do two or three.

That says the drop was 42 minutes ago 28.9N 86.2W. Recon has never been at that location. The closest they got to there was five hours ago.

EDIT: That says AF302 and the current flight in Ed is AF308. Is there another plane out there?

Reposting to proper thread

That VORTEX message would indicate that the Flight Level Winds are coming down to the surface. Wait what. Am I reading that wrong.
