Gotta love this!

One other point... if NHC waits until 5pm, that's just too late by a few hours for boaters. The time to get prepped is in good daylight before the squalls/winds pick up. Once conditions get bad and it's dark and one's trying to secure things, that's when injuries occur. Only a few thousand boats effected, no big deal... ! (my rant for the day)

A mini,mini rant:

If this was located in the GOM a Special Tropical Disturbance Statement would haved been issued even if recon haved not gone to the system. Rant over.

Orange alert for ST Marteen and St Barth at 11 am given the latest weather forecast of Meteo-France !!! They added strong gustywinds near 80 km/h or higher during the thunderstorms beginning this afternoon! Good luck Msbee hope no TD or a TS crossing your island, but looks like it may not be a simple strong wave....we should monitor very closely this feature getting better and better hours after hours...  :(

Tropical cyclone or no tropical cyclone, people up there should treat this as a solid tropical storm.

do we or does meteo-france have a time line for this?
Honestly, it is really confusing.
absolutely nothing happening here now. in fact, the sky is looking brighter than ever.

NWS San Juan getting ahead of Flood potential:

...Flash Flood Watch in effect from 6 PM AST this evening through
Friday afternoon...

The National Weather Service in San Juan has issued a

* Flash Flood Watch for portions of Puerto Rico and Virgin
Islands...including the following areas...in Puerto Rico...
central interior...Culebra...eastern interior...Mayaguez and
vicinity...north Central...Northeast...northwest...Ponce and
vicinity...San Juan and vicinity...southeast...southwest...
Vieques and western interior. In Virgin Islands...St Croix and
St. Thomas/St. John/adjacent islands.

* From 6 PM AST this evening through Friday afternoon

* the strong tropical wave over the northern Leeward Islands
continues to eject bands of scattered to numerous showers and
embedded thunderstorms that are pushing southwest across the
Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The forecast is for the bulk of
the weather associated with this strong tropical wave to
continue moving generally west at 10 to 15 mph and reach the
Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico this evening. Latest satellite
imagery and the Meteo France Lesser Antilles radar indicated
that the wave continues to show signs of better organization.

* Weather conditions will deteriorate later this afternoon and
tonight as the area of low pressure associated with the strong
tropical wave...nearing the northern Leeward Islands...will
begin to move across the local region. The outer rainbands
moving ahead of the tropical wave are already affecting the U.S.
Virgin Islands and the most of Puerto Rico. Conditions will
continue to quickly deteriorate as additional bands approach the
area from the northeast late this afternoon and tonight. Periods
of heavy rain are expected with the
showers...thunderstorms...and squalls. Therefore flash flooding
is possible later this afternoon and tonight as the wave
approaches the local islands. Rainfall totals of one to three
inches are expected across the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto
Rico with locally higher amounts possible across the higher
terrain. This tropical wave could become a tropical depression
later this afternoon through Friday and therefore residents and
visitors in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands should
closely monitor its progress. Regardless of whether or not it
intensifies...significant amounts of rainfall is anticipated as
the associated weather moves across the islands tonight through
Friday. Mudslides are possible over areas of steep terrain.

Absolutely Barbara i don't know if this mean a TD status in the next few hours by extrapolation given the latest weather forecast, very confusing situation...and i'm amazed our radio have not speaking about that in the title for the moment for you in ST Marteen, very confusing, that's awfull. No prob in Guadeloup air, little windy in my area bright sky and little dry air can be seen....wait and monitor this nasty system....

The NWS office did the right thing to issue this flash flood watch early to alert the public about the great potential for massive flooding from this.

Totally agree Cycloneye...i would rather see them sooner than later with notification on flood potential. We wll have to see how this plays out. Keeping my fingers crossed we get a good jog or two to the north and can see it from a distance :)

Antigua and Barbuda were experiencing only 5 MPH winds at 3PM.

The satellite presentation is deceiving apparantly.

Could a small LLC be responsible for such an impressive Upper Level appearance?

By the time this approaches the north coast of PR it may be of more concern but with luck PR might get the weak side of the storm (wind wise).
