If I went off satellite alone I would say it is a strengthing storm. Hell, the eye is starting to clear with reds around most of it, finally starting to look like a major. But yeah there is likely mid level shear hurting it.

GFDL at 12:40 am central, HWRF, UKMET, NOGAPS rougly at about 12:55

Check out these model runs. Some of them seem to suggest Gus doing a loop back into the GOM!
