I asked before, but how could this impact Gus, if at all? Could it leave behind a weakness or affect the atmosphere in some other way that moves Gus in a specific direction?

Or is it too early to know?

Yes! I am wondering the same. Sheesh, as if the pro mets didn't have enough on their hands already ... this just complicates things even more!

Any idea which way this thing is heading? I got weekend plans down here in S TX and would really appreciate thoughts from anybody, pro met or not.

Thanks

Would be nice to get a Floater on it, but using the GOES IR loop, I would hedge a guess on WNW.

Doesn't have enough time...likely be inland regardless before Gustav even knows it was there.

Here is what NWSFO Brownsville said in their mid-morning forecast discussion:

DISCUSSION...SATELLITE IMAGES INDICATE CONVECTION DEVELOPING
ALONG THE MEXICAN COAST NORTH OF TAMPICO THIS MORNING. RUC80 1000MB-500MB
WIND STREAMLINE ANALYSIS INDICATED AN ANTICYCLONE ACROSS THE
NORTHWEST GULF COAST. THIS SHOULD BRING ANY SHOWERS OR
THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING ACROSS NORTHEAST MEXICO TODAY NORTHWARD
INTO DEEP SOUTH TEXAS.

------------------------------
So I'm guessing whatever 96L is would move in the same direction?

I'm just worried it will move into Mexico and all the rain will move North and mess up the big Labor Day weekend. Oh does that sound selfish.

The season is really turning on now!

Gustav could have another contender boxing him in if it moves N.

Buoy 42055: http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=42055

This buoy has reported pressure as low as 1008.5 mb. It's north of 96L and winds have been from the east, no surprise here!

Geez, this one came out of nowhere ... as we all have been hung up (and rightfully so!) on Gustav and even Hanna and now this. Wow. All I can say is "wow." :P

It may be developing and we have to wait! I mean, conditions appear favorable for development, you don't see the convection being sheared, and pressures are low in the area, and we're almost in September!

We don't need any more rain in the RGV, the western part of the Valley was just soaked with more than a foot of rain a week ago.

Sorry for not having any flashy avatars or images, this is my first post and I'm using my work computer. =)

Welcome to the Forum!

We have the same problem now in Florida as Hanna may become a menace. We don't need any more heavy rain. The lake is back to normal and any other additional rain will just become a flooding problem.

Pressure is rather low there, tricky to tell with these sorts of systems but we've quite a few little storms wind up rapidly down there before so if it can get a little further away from land its got a chance.

I do think it would be nice if Recon could go to all three systems at once, but they have to prioritize and this was sudden to develop. Maybe tomorrow?
