Just checked many of the traffic cameras. Appears that I-10 is completely open out of NOLA, at the I-55 split at La Place, near Baton Rouge, at Lafayette and Opelousas.

All the traffic jams nothwithstanding, people have been able to get out, and even people who want to leave now should have no traffic problems, though I can't say anything about gas supplies, stores, etc.

Most worried about Morgan City, Houma, Grand Isle, Lafitte, even Lafayette, and the westbank of JP.

I know I and many here are praying for all in Gustav's path. In case it's helpful for some to have suggestions in how to pray, a group blog I participate in is posting a number of prayers, including an excellent prayer litany for a group prayer service (though it can also be used for private prayer)

You'll find all the prayers here:
http://anglicanprayer.wordpress.com/cat ... disasters/

The specific prayer litany I've found most helpful is here.

May the Lord grant safety to all in Gustav's path.

we decided not to ride out the storm afterall. I am at a hotel in northeast Alabama. Heard reports of powerlines down everywhere in neighborhood. And roofs off lots of businesses and homes. I live at ground zero basically where Gustav went through. Terrebonne Parish just north of Houma.

Just an observation here. This thread seems to go unused. In Dolly, Fay and now Gustav, people seem to want to place current observations in the main storm thread.

We have friends who lived in Houma, but now live in Perry (near Vermillion River). Has anyone heard any news from that area? We haven't been in contact with them, but believe they are likely with some of their family in Baton Rouge area.

I just talked with a fellow S2K poster from Diamondhead (Mississippi Storm Magnet) who went down to I-10/603. He said he was able to exit I-10 at 603 but not able to go south due to flooding...those gas stations just south of the interstate had about 5 feet, he said. That is north-ish of Waveland/Bay St. Louis.

Cajungal, glad you got out of there! I am worried about a number of our S2K family here, who may just have no power to get on the internet. Has anyone heard by phone? Just want to know they are safe, don't have to divulge personal details...
