Yep not at all surprising given how solid the convection is near this system.

Yep, could have 3 systems at the same time, would be very impressive if we could get this to be a hurricane in time though odds are it won't do it in time...

Is this the system, or the one to the north west?

It does look very good and there is some slight curving. Hopefully this will go fishing and its got a nice long stretch of open water ahead to power up all it likes.

I think that this season has been interesting essentially all the way through. Just a couple of pretty brief lulls.

ABNT20 KNHC 291757
TWOAT
TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK
NWS TPC/NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL
200 PM EDT FRI AUG 29 2008

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON TROPICAL
STORM GUSTAV...LOCATED ABOUT 125 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF GRAND
CAYMAN ISLAND...AND ON TROPICAL STORM HANNA...LOCATED ABOUT 215
MILES NORTH OF THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS.

SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY REMAINS DISORGANIZED IN ASSOCIATION
WITH A TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED MIDWAY BETWEEN THE WEST COAST OF
AFRICA AND THE LESSER ANTILLES. UPPER-LEVEL WINDS ARE ONLY
MARGINALLY FAVORABLE...AND ANY DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM SHOULD
BE SLOW TO OCCUR AS IT MOVES WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH.

:rarrow: THE STRONG TROPICAL WAVE LOCATED ABOUT 175 MILES EAST-SOUTHEAST OF
THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS HAS CHANGED LITTLE IN ORGANIZATION THIS
AFTERNOON. CONDITIONS APPEAR CONDUCIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT AND THIS
SYSTEM COULD BECOME A TROPICAL DEPRESSION DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF
DAYS AS IT MOVES WESTWARD AT 10 TO 15 MPH. THE SYSTEM IS EXPECTED
TO BRING SHOWERS AND SQUALLS TO THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS DURING THE
NEXT DAY OR SO.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.

Re: Invest 97L in Eastern Atlantic=2 PM TWO,TD in 1 or 2 days

From the 2 PM Discussion by TPC:

TROPICAL WAVE IS ALONG 21W S OF 18N WITH A 1009 MB LOW CENTER
ALONG THE WAVE NEAR 14N MOVING W NEAR 10 KT. A BROAD CYCLONIC
ROTATION IS OBSERVED ON SATELLITE IMAGERY AND AN EARLIER
QUIKSCAT PASS THIS MORNING CONFIRMED THE POSITION OF THE WAVE
AND LOW CENTER. CLUSTERS OF SCATTERED MODERATE CONVECTION COVERS
THE AREA FROM 7N-18N BETWEEN 18W-27W. CONDITIONS APPEAR
FAVORABLE FOR POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM DURING THE
NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS AS IT TRACKS WESTWARD.

(yawn) Let me know when they paint it RED, or when it crosses 40W. I admit, it looks good right now, but so many do that close to the coast. Remember 95L (now Hanna), was on/off/on/off, that sufficiently anesthetized me. Perhaps complacency has settled in, who'd have thunk it!

This looks likely to cape verde system, should go fishing unless there is a strong ridge to its north and it can stay close to where it is right now in terms of latitude.
