Seems Laura is now "post-tropical", since it's not quite "extratropical". New term?

Not a new term per se. Canadian Hurricane Centre has been using this term for ages. As Franklin puts it in his discussion,

I RATHER LIKE THE CANADIAN
HURRICANE CENTER'S TERM POST-TROPICAL...WHICH SIMPLY MEANS NO
LONGER TROPICAL...TO DESCRIBE WHAT LAURA HAS BECOME. THERE IS NOT
REALLY ENOUGH EVIDENCE OF FRONTAL STRUCTURE YET TO CONSIDER LAURA
EXTRATROPICAL IN THE TRADITIONAL SENSE...AND SOME USERS MIGHT INFER
A WEAK SYSTEM IF WE USED THE TERM REMNANT LOW...WHICH IS
MOST-COMMONLY APPLIED TO DECAYING SYSTEMS IN THE EASTERN PACIFIC
BASIN.

But this is the first time I know of that the NHC has used it.

And personally, I'd like to see them use it more for such systems. Clearly not a TC or subTC but not extratropical yet.

Bones says enough with Laura. He declares there will be only one additional named storm this season, and it'll be a hurricane. That way, I win our hurricane pool at work. ;-)

Interesting use of terms, maybe the NHC will adopt it for 2009?

Either way, unless you can somehow revive yourself (good luck up there), hope you enjoyed your first visit in 37 years Laura! Don't let the :Door: slam on your way out! See you in 2014!

I just love the detailed technical analysis on the remaining season. Good luck with the pool ;-)
