:uarrow: Doesn't mean it's not weakening, though. Which it should be. I'll believe it's getting stronger when I see the pictures right in front of my eyes.

Well, it looks tropical on vis...

...and on IR, as well. It seems extratropical transition has actually ceased, at least for now.

Wow. Maybe I should shut up and look at the satellites next time. Doesn't that look DARNED like Vince and Catarina, though? And Epsilon? Or am I crazy?

Of course, it's the same kind of thing... cold waters, not in the area where this thing is supposed to happen. Definitely looks like a 'cane now.

Actually, SSTs where Gene is are fairly marginal, around 26C. Flossie maintained major hurricane status over 24C waters.

It looks really cool. This thing just won't go away. It does remind me of Epsilon.

Dry air's beginning to win out. It may have been a brief reintensification caused by interaction with the baroclinic zone.

Gene's STILL going. Quite amazing. Eye's still obvious although convection has seriously weakened.

Last visible was no longer impressive. It seems ET now, which is surprising, since it was certainly tropical before. Definitely another one to remember this year. Oh, and if it carries any kind of significance, JTWC seemed to reckon it was still 55 knots not too long ago.
