The Dvorak P-W relationship in the area for 920mb is about 120 kt, but since it was a pretty small storm with a tight core, it was surely much stronger than that - an Atlantic estimate (920mb = 140 kt) seems more reasonable.

BY THE BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY
TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING CENTRE PERTH

A Cyclone WARNING continues for coastal areas from Bidyadanga to De Grey and
adjacent inland parts including Telfer, Cotton Creek, Marble Bar and Nullagine.

A Cyclone WATCH continues for inland parts of the eastern Pilbara extending
further to the WA border and including Warburton and Giles.

At 8:00 pm WST Severe Tropical Cyclone Laurence was estimated to be
30 kilometres southeast of Wallal and
235 kilometres east of Port Hedland
moving south southeast at 11 kilometres per hour.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Laurence crossed the east Pilbara coast at 5pm near
Wallal. VERY DESTRUCTIVE winds with gusts to 285 kilometres per hour are being
experienced near the cyclone centre, and will extend inland tonight. People in
the coastal areas are specifically warned of the DANGEROUS STORM TIDE. Tides are
likely to rise significantly above the normal high tide mark with DAMAGING WAVES
and DANGEROUS FLOODING.

DESTRUCTIVE winds with wind gusts to 150 kilometres per hour are expected to
extend inland overnight and during Tuesday, possibly reaching as far inland as
Telfer. GALES with wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour may be occurring along
other parts of the coast between Bidyadanga and south towards De Grey and will
extend well inland during Tuesday and Wednesday, reaching the vicinity of Giles
and Warburton by Wednesday afternoon or evening.

Heavy rainfall is falling between De Grey and Sandfire and extends inland with
rainfall totals in excess of 300 mm likely near the track including the far
eastern parts of the De Grey river catchment. Falls may exceed 100 mm across
remaining parts of the De Grey River catchment. Heavy rainfall is expected to
extend into the far inland eastern Pilbara and Interior on Tuesday and
Wednesday.
FESA-State Emergency Service advises as a precautionary measure the following
community alerts:
RED ALERT: People in or near communities from Sandfire to Pardoo and inland to
Yarrie and Marble Bar need to go to shelter immediately.
YELLOW ALERT: People in or near Nullagine and Telfer need to take action and get
ready to shelter from a cyclone.
BLUE ALERT: People in or near Cotton Creek need to prepare for cyclonic weather
and organise an emergency kit including first aid kit, torch, portable radio,
spare batteries, food and water.
ALL CLEAR: People in areas Port Hedland to De Grey and Bidyadanga are advised
that the wind dangers have passed and you should proceed with caution.
Communities in the eastern Pilbara should listen for the next advice.

Pilbara having crossed the coast at 80 Mile Beach late Monday afternoon. VERY
DESTRUCTIVE winds with gusts to 230 kilometres per hour are being experienced
near the cyclone centre. Although Laurence is expected to gradually weaken
during Monday VERY DESTRUCTIVE winds are still possible this morning as the
cyclone moves further inland. Tides along the coast near 80 Mile Beach will be
higher than expected this morning.

DESTRUCTIVE winds with wind gusts to 150 kilometres per hour are expected to
extend inland during Tuesday, possibly reaching as far inland as Telfer and
Cotton Creek. GALES with wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour may be occurring

higher than expected this morning.

A Cyclone WARNING is current for the Pilbara east of Nullagine and the northwest
and central Interior, including Telfer, Cotton Creek, Warburton and Giles.

The Cyclone WARNING for the far southwest Kimberley has been CANCELLED.

At 11:00 am WST Severe Tropical Cyclone Laurence was estimated to be
95 kilometres west northwest of Telfer and
195 kilometres northwest of Cotton Creek
moving south southeast at 12 kilometres per hour.

Severe Tropical Cyclone Laurence is moving south southeast over the far eastern
Pilbara having crossed the coast at 80 Mile Beach late Monday afternoon. VERY
DESTRUCTIVE winds with gusts to 165 kilometres per hour are possible near the
cyclone centre until early this afternoon.

Although Laurence is expected to gradually weaken during today, DESTRUCTIVE
winds with gusts to 150 kilometres per hour are expected to extend further
inland, possibly reaching Telfer and Cotton Creek later this afternoon or
evening. GALES with wind gusts to 100 kilometres per hour will extend well
inland, reaching the vicinity of Giles and Warburton during Wednesday.

Heavy rainfall is falling over the eastern Pilbara with rainfall totals in
excess of 150 mm likely near the south side of the track, including far eastern
parts of the De Grey river catchment. Falls may exceed 100 mm across remaining
parts of the De Grey River catchment. Heavy rainfall is expected to extend into
the Interior during today and on Wednesday.

A Cyclone WARNING is current for the far east of the Pilbara and the northwest
and central Interior, including Cotton Creek, Warburton and Giles.

At 8:00 pm WST Tropical Cyclone Laurence was estimated to be
20 kilometres west of Cotton Creek and
115 kilometres south southeast of Telfer
moving southeast at 23 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Laurence is currently in the vicinity of Cotton Creek in the
far eastern Pilbara moving southeast. DESTRUCTIVE winds with gusts to 130
kilometres per hour are possible at Cotton Creek and Punmu until midnight
tonight.

Laurence should continue weakening on Wednesday although GALES with wind gusts
to 100 kilometres per hour may extend towards the NT/SA border reaching the
vicinity of Giles and perhaps Warburton during Wednesday aftenoon.

Heavy rainfall is falling over the eastern Pilbara with rainfall totals in
excess of 100 mm possible near the south side of the track. Heavy rainfall
should contract to the Interior overnight and extend to the NT/SA border region
during Wednesday.

FESA-State Emergency Service advises as a precautionary measure the following
community alerts:
RED ALERT: People in or near Cotton Creek and Punmu need to remain in shelter.
ALL CLEAR: People in and near Telfer, Woodie Woodie and Nifty are advised that
the wind danger has passed and you should proceed with caution.
Communities in the eastern Pilbara and Interior should listen for the next

A Cyclone WARNING is current for northwestern and central parts of the Interior
District, including Warburton and Giles.

At 2:00 am WST Tropical Cyclone Laurence was estimated to be
145 kilometres southeast of Cotton Creek and
490 kilometres west northwest of Giles
moving southeast at 26 kilometres per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Laurence is weakening as it accelerates to the southeast
through remote parts of the northwest Interior district, away from Telfer and
Cotton Creek.

Laurence should continue to weaken during Wednesday although GALES with wind
gusts to 100 kilometres per hour may extend towards the Northern Territory/South
Australian border, possibly reaching areas surrounding Giles and Warburton
during Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Heavy rainfall with rainfall totals of 50-150 mm are possible, particularly near
the southern side of the track.

FESA-State Emergency Service advises as a precautionary measure the following
community alerts:
ALL CLEAR: People in and near the communities of Cotton Creek, Punmu, Telfer,
