Anyone else noticed that the NOAA missions are named after Muppets characters? Right now we've got Gonzo leaving dropsondes all over the place, and Miss Piggy on her way in

I added that to the recon network link to represent the actual plane "nicknames" for NOAA aircraft. It is not mission specific.

Whoops, somehow in all this time I've missed their nicknames  With the PGI trio going on, I got tricked into thinking it was something new

I'm thinking recon could find a borderline 5 when it comes in

I only added it to the Google Earth recon system in the past day. The aircraft identifier helps distinguish things when there is a lot of recon.

I thought the 03 flag was for SFMR. Does that impact the pressure readings as well?

From NHOP (National Hurricane Operations Plan), Appendix G:

First column indicates status of positional variables as follows:
0 All parameters of nominal accuracy
1 Lat/lon questionable
2 Geopotential altitude or static pressure questionable
3 Both lat/lon and GA/PS questionable

Second column indicates status of meteorological variables as follows:
0 All parameters of nominal accuracy
1 T or TD questionable
2 Flight-level winds questionable
3 SFMR parameter(s) questionable
4 T/TD and FL winds questionable
5 T/TD and SFMR questionable
6 FL winds and SFMR questionable
9 T/TD, FL winds, and SFMR questionable

Forgot the link to NHOP:
http://www.ofcm.gov/nhop/10/nhop10.htm

So if the first number is a 2 or 3, then extrap pressure is questionable since you can't do a proper extrap if you don't know reliably what level you are at.

It's already out there actually, it is just not transmitting HDOBS yet it would appear.

At 3:40PM EDT it was 214 miles (345 km) to the ENE (69°) from Daytona Beach, FL, USA.

I just noticed from the plan of the day that the current Air Force mission is from 24,000 TO 33,000 FT, so not a normal mission.

FLIGHT TWO -- TEAL 78
A. 01/0000Z
B. AFXXX 0807A EARL
C. 31/1730Z
F. 24,000 TO 33,000 FT

The next normal flight should depart at 9:15PM EDT. Looks like they mistakenly have "A. 01/1800Z" instead of "A. 01/0600Z".

FLIGHT THREE -- TEAL 77
A. 01/1800Z
B. AFXXX 0907A EARL
C. 01/0115Z
D. 24.0N 69.7W
E. 01/0530Z TO 01/0800Z
F. SFC TO 15,000 FT

Out of curiosity, didn't a G-IV flight go out tonight, and if so, will the data from the dropsondes be in the 00Z models? (Meaning the ones that come out after 11 pm like the 00Z GFS)
