It looks like plane may find a TD when it reaches the center as west winds are at Hunduras.

Operationally, perhaps, but for a research project focused on tropical cyclogenesis, it's right up their alley 8-)

Could be. But not much cyclogenesis here!!

Are the SMFR reduced to 90% on this mission?

No...the SMFR is not reduced at all. Those are surface estimates.

Got a flight level wind of 53 knots and they are still north of the center...all the SMFR readings were flagged in the data set, but one was up to 48 knots.

Yeah or just be short....but either way thats very high winds given the pressure, microwave suggests an eyewall already in place and Dvorak estimate of 5.0 does suggest this is probably a hurricane but we will see just how high it goes!

Very impressive wind speeds, gotta be close to hurricane status right now you'd have thought!

71*90% = 63.9
71*85% = 60.35
71*80% = 56.8

Not sure which reduction to use.

Thanks! Is there a chart somewhere giving the break downs? I never can remember what they are

SMFR did pick up a nonflagged wind of 57 knots, which for once lines up perfectly with the flight level reduction (56.8 for 80%). Perhaps they should bump it up to 60 knots, encase stronger winds were not sampled (only 3 knots higher from those already found). Even if it is not at 60 knots right now, I'm sure within a few passes it will have strengthened some.
