Good lord. Those pictures look horrific. I'm guessing those aerial shots were taken in Maconacon, which faced the storm surge of Megi along with the strongest winds. I'm afraid that the full extent of the human toll isn't yet known.

More photos.....

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/photoal ... 565902.htm

this is going to take a lot to clean up and rebuild! I think bt is right the sigh of relief when the death toll wasnt high I think that is because most people havent got into the hardest hit areas.

Doesn't want to go away just yet! The question is where will it go...will it hit Tawain first or China...Models have been back and forth.

I like watching ship obs basically "circling the wagon" around storms to try to avoid them.

Megi really is very large now at least in terms of cloud coverage, the inner core is still pretty large but it does appear to have tightened up somewhat, probably explaining the increasing in the JMA number I suspect.

That sat picture also just goes to show how large Megi actually has become, as per normal it really spread itself out overland!

Since the convection doesn't look super-strong, I would put the intensity at 110 kt. Still there is a huge storm surge threat, to say the least.

Just got word that the towns of Divilacan, Maconacon and Palanan in Isabela province got obliterated. These were the towns that got all the brunt of Megi/Juan as a category 5. All I saw on the video was roofs torn out as if an EF5 tornado tore up the place.

Video from ABS-CBN (Tagalog language sorry, but the devastation is clearly seen)

Yeah Crazy, the system got a little stronger then I was expecting given the inner core is still large and looks a little flabby.
