Doubt it will do this but there is a history of near-shore exploders in this area:

Being so near to land might be the saving grace from RI

looks like the eyewall convection is increasing in organization. yeah belize is lucky that this didnt happen 24hrs earlier, they'd have had a small intense storm on their hands. man they've been getting all the action this year and its such a tiny area

But why did values from Hermine count even though it moved over land?

Advisories 6 thru 8 had winds of more than 39 mph, albeit over land, but the ACE was calculated and added to the total.

Or Alex's Adv. 23-25.

Your are right as I was wrong on that. ACE overland counts until it becomes a TD.

At the very least this has the possibility to either do one of the following...

1. Get stronger before landfall than NHC predicts, adding more ACE...as well as...

2.Stay more organized over land than the NHC predicts.

Both can contribute to our ACE value, not like I think Richard is the last storm of the season.

Richard will probably not be the last storm of the season, I know the gfs keeps pointing to more Caribbean system developing over the next 10 days and with a favorable MJO and warm ssts, we'll likely see 1-2 more systems.

not hearing anything on local radio of high winds anywhere yet, I'm in South and according to this tracking map http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26295161/ns/weather looking at 39+ mph winds but Belize City and even Belmopan inland can expect some serious high winds later today. There is a mad rush in Belize city to move ppl to shelters now they are looking at cat 2 as possibilty. And yes, cyclonic chronic we've had more than our share of storms this year. for last couple of hours I 've had steady rain hardly any wind at all, that should change in the next hour or so. As my dsl modem is dependant on electricity to work and we on grid hooked to Belize city we are expecting electrical failure around landfall time, if the supplier doesn't cut power to save damage to system. Radio Love fm which can be listened to on rel player has back up generator so should remain on air even during landfall, they are located near ladywood, Belize City.

Where are you in relation to Belize City as your location doesn't appear mentioned on the radar? As I have said before, stay safe and when you can inform us about what is going on or the aftermath.
