So do we have storm totals or anything? Where can I find those? Total rainfall, highest gust recorded, duration of hurricane force winds, etc.?

Naha's rainfall total for the past 24 hours was around 330mm, i'm sure it was well over that if we total the whole 48hours of the storm... highest gust you could find in JMA, but that would mean searching each and every reporting station for that magic number, haha...

Highest gust recorded at Kadena was 84 knots, or 97 mph. Kadena did not experience sustained hurricane-force winds, although winds gusted above typhoon force for a sizeable amount of time. Storm totals are best calculated from METAR reports, seems to be in excess of 40 inches though.

Okinawans never cease to amaze me. Already back to work at the factories around us early this morning! My husband was out and said there was hardly any damage out in town. Said you wouldn't have known anything had happened. Everything already back to normal. Only damage we have is that our entire fire escape door is missing and my husband's license plate was blown off.

Wow! You guys got hammered on base. Another reason I'm glad to live away from all those trees and in concrete city! I wonder how parts of Lester look. They're in the flood plane. Okinawans already been out cleaning since early this morning while we weren't allowed out.

amazing pictures Storming!!

btw, here is my amateur rainfall map, again from JMA stations from August 5 to 6 so obviously it didn't have any data from Thursday's rainfall... please use with caution!! the jackpot seems to be Motobu which recorded 703mm for the last 36 hours...

Nago, which is closer to Kadean (?) got around 552mm from the past 36 hours... Nago also reported the maximum wind gust of 170kph from the SE at around 21:59 local time Friday...

Actually, Nago may have reported the highest gusts on Okinawa, but Miyagijima (an islet east of Okinawa) reported even higher gusts than Nago before it failed.

Don't forget that higher elevations will report more rainfall than lower ones, too.

Nago is about 20 miles North of Kadena on the West side of the island.

Stormy's pictures indicate a lot of damage on Kadena. Kadena has more trees than most places on the island. Driving onto Kadena is like entering a large wildlife refuge compared to the concrete jungle which is most of the area around the U.S. bases. Never really thought about it, but I used to think, "What the heck do Okinawans have against trees and yards?!" - Makes sense if trees are going to do that much damage after every storm. :(

The husband said he's dreading going back to work on Futenma. Futenma is at a much higher elevation than most of the surrounding areas, but it's flat with peaks and valleys up there and floods easily. Willing to bet there is some serious flooding there as well. I feel really bad for those whose homes are flooded, right now. Waiting for more damage reports to roll in. We finally had Internet restored so I'm catching up on everything I've missed!

Some very large rainfall totals with Muifa.

Anyway ECM now takes this pretty rapidly to the north from now on.
