Seven named storms, with an eighth potentially on the way, and still about a month before the peak of the season.

One wonders if we'll be dusting off the greek alphabet again this year.

Granted they have been weaker tropical storms this year, but we are only 2 names behind where we were this time in August 2005. Irene formed on August 7, 2005 and Jose didn't form until August 22, 2005.

Yet nothing has reached hurricane intensity.

And also, the ACE numbers are very low (See ACE thread at TT) because none of the storms have reached hurricane status.

Could be another season similar to 2007- high number of storms, but most stayed weak for one reason of another. Of course, that season still had Dean and Felix, so not every storm was weak, but could be a good comparison.

Well, the pressure dropped a millibar...wonder if they are going to do one more pass at the system before calling it a day?

Definitely some strong interaction going on now. One might guess that 92L is getting absorbed into Gert? Unless it has a closed circulation there won't be Fujiwhara.

I tell ya, this is how you get to a near record number of storms. Still a week or so away from the beginning of the real peak and we're sneaking in storm after storm. This will be an interesting season IMO. Remember the cries of season cancel last year (me included)? Coming out of a La Nina I think we can still expect a late season.

And we may witness La Nina comeback earlier than expected if the actual cooling in the Pacific continues.

Sure. Some of the worst seasons were in La Nina to Neutral or Neutral ENSOs. Conditions are ripe for some very big storms.

Back on topic, it looks like 92L is doing more of a Kamikaze than Fujiwhara.

Would not Gert be a girl? Short for Gertrude, maybe? Or am I wrong?

Still fascinating interaction going on with 92L. I'm not yet totally convinced that there isn't some circulation within 92L. If there is, GERT may not absorb 92L and will move more westward due to Fujiwhara. While I don't really expect it, I'm not so sure I don't see some westward motion in GERT in the last few frames. Regardless of the outcome, this is pretty rare and very interesting to watch. I would love to know what Aric thinks. He is just really good at this stuff. He has a natural intuition for it.
