I have been watching this one closely. This is the area that was SW of Franklin off the Carolinas. Finally getting some recognition...

Finally, this thing already looked like a fully developed TC at some point.

To be honest, this is close to being a tropical/subtropical cyclone already....

I don't think it will develop if it is not a cyclone already. It's moving into an area of 30-40 knot wind shear...

With the NHC being that conservative, I doubt this will make it to anything nameable although it might be at TS/STS strength.
Definitely a candidate for an upgrade in post-season analysis.

Thanks Rock. I rarely dislike what the NHC does, but I think they really missed this one. In my opinion it should have been circled since yesterday at least. I feel this may be classified in post-season analysis. It is too late now. It's not like this would have been a significant system, but I just don't feel like they are being consistent by naming storms such as Franklin, but not this....

Deserves a straight code red, but the National Hurricane Center won't do it. A slight increase in thunderstorm activity will result in a tropical cyclone IMO, which a lot of people will probably agree with.

Should have been declared an invest and mentioned in the TWO 12-24 hours ago.

FOR THE NORTH ATLANTIC...CARIBBEAN SEA AND THE GULF OF MEXICO...

THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER IS ISSUING ADVISORIES ON TROPICAL
STORM GERT...LOCATED ABOUT 215 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF BERMUDA.

AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED ABOUT 450 MILES NORTH-NORTHEAST OF
THE NORTHERN LEEWARD ISLANDS IS PRODUCING DISORGANIZED SHOWER
AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. SHIP AND BUOY OBSERVATIONS SUGGEST THAT
THE SYSTEM STILL DOES NOT HAVE A CLOSED SURFACE CIRCULATION...AND
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO REMAIN ONLY MARGINALLY
CONDUCIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS DUE TO THE
ITS PROXIMITY TO TROPICAL STORM GERT. THIS SYSTEM HAS A MEDIUM
CHANCE...30 PERCENT...OF BECOMING A TROPICAL CYCLONE DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS AS IT MOVES TOWARD THE NORTHWESTWARD AT 15 TO 20 MPH.

ELSEWHERE...TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION IS NOT EXPECTED DURING THE
NEXT 48 HOURS.

PUBLIC ADVISORIES ON TROPICAL STORM GERT ARE ISSUED UNDER WMO HEADER
WTNT32 KNHC AND UNDER AWIPS HEADER MIATCPAT2. FORECAST/ADVISORIES
ON TROPICAL STORM GERT ARE ISSUED UNDER WMO HEADER WTNT22 KNHC AND
UNDER AWIPS HEADER MIATCMAT2.

Whaaaaat!?! This is so random, suddenly an invest pops up and then it dies off without mentioning in the TWO. This season has been trolling us so hard.

No wonder NHC didn't mention it at 8 PM TWO.

Very interesting looking system, not a whole lot of convection but thats not surprising given its very northerly latitutde.

This part of the basin has been rampant this season with regards to disturbances...

What's the record for the shortest lived invest? This has to be a contender.
