radar image from Baler, courtesy of PAGASA... taken right around 1845 UTC, hours prior to landfall..

it's amazing how fast this storm got off once it shook that dry air away... if conditions had been favorable a little bit earlier, we could be seeing a Super Typhoon now instead of a Cat 3...

I know the waters of Luzon really work wonders. I'm not surprised that this intensified from a Cat1 to Cat3 system. Though bad news for the provinces in Northern and Central Luzon. Even as far as Metro Manila, the wind gusts are intense accompanied by rains. The outcome would have been more severe in Casiguran.

what is the 24 hour accumulated rainfall over Metro Manila? My car was being rammed by strong winds going to work.

Classes in all levels and government offices were suspended.

The rains here became drizzles but the winds really picking up now. I believe what we are seeing right now are strong, maybe high-end TS-force winds.

Based on a blend of all the data, I would guess the landfall intensity was 115 kt (leaning towards ADT as it was rapidly deepening).

Man, so it DID intensify overnight...Yikes. Stay safe, guys! I wish I didn't have so much going on this week. Really just want to sit here and track with the rest of you all. Philippines seems to have had a pretty quiet year, this year...Nesat is trying to shake things up.

For all the Americans, just saw a video showing some pretty significant flooding in the Embassy.

The flooding along the US Embassy is also attributed to a storm surge from Manila Bay. O_O When I was a kid we always pass by that area and have a picnic at the Rizal Park, I didn't know that the baywalk area can have something like this.

In Quezon City, LOTS of fallen trees and signboards. I was in a mall to have our cellphones charged and on my way to ride home, the lettering of the mall's name in the building was taken off by the strong winds and it almost got us if we weren't running quick. Ultimate storm experience.

Anyways, if the condition here in Metro Manila is severe, I wonder how bad it is on the areas where the eye actually passed through. To makes things worse, many rivers in Metro Manila are upwelling especially the Marikina River and several dams are already releasing water as they breached critical level.
