What an odd season! The first major hurricane has most everybody yawning and this thread hardly any comments - the average invest gets many more pages than Michael has!

Something important to mention about what Michael has done is that is the first completely non-tropical developing major hurricane since Hurricane Claudette in 1991.

(Not developing from a tropical wave)

This shows well how tropical cyclones are complex to forecast and that there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Michael is looking good ATM at both visible and infrared images.

WITH MICHAEL BECOMING THE SEVENTH HURRICANE OF THE SEASON EARLIER
TODAY...IT MARKS THE THIRD EARLIEST FORMATION OF THE SEVENTH
HURRICANE IN A YEAR...ONLY BEHIND 1886 AND 1893.

Interesting.

He's looking very impressive this morning, and even more so when you look at his means of origin. I agree, a beautiful fish storm indeed. That's the way we like 'em, heading out for a tour of the North Atlantic.

I have to say, this is the most impressive RI I've seen in quite a while! Reminds me a bit of Julia.

If Gordon gets upgraded in post-analysis, it would seem that the eastern subtropical Atlantic is the place to be...

I'm proud of Michael, he is the little storm that could, the ugly duckling of the season. And the best thing is that he is a fish storm. Good for him!!!
