Im very happy to see this go, it is one for the record books and defiantly smart that PAGASA has gone ahead and decided to retire it.

This video below is different than my normal ones, im sure many will find it interesting.

I came across this footage from Cateel, which shows the absolute devastation that took place there. Trees totally denuded of vegetation is often a sign of a strong cat 4 / cat 5 landfall.

i must be honest...the amount of attention that bopha is receiving ever since she gave birth to landfall from *major news network* is equivalent to a thunderstorm warning! really? no talk of global warming...little hype only AFTER landfall...recent storms that hit the U.S regularly occur here...what is wrong with them? last i checked, the wpac is the most active in the world...the future atlantic that everyone is thinking of... no disrespect but these last few seasons really frustrates me...it's like they don't care...

I think one part is mainly because since US is much more economically advanced so when a hurricane hits, it could be financally devastating. Are many overhyped? Some but others like Sandy were really bad and had a lot of news coverage because it was so devastating both financally and personally.

Not disregarding the Philippines or anything since this storm was very bad for them and I do agree that there should be more news attention for them. But I think one part on why the coverage is low is because they get hit very often, it isn't seen as being "significant" compared to other storms. Not saying the storm isn't significant or anything.

like i've said, a light post in NYC would already cost a house in Mindanao. SO even if you had a weak hurricane hitting NYC, it would cost a lot of American dollars.

What makes Sandy so special this year is that it hit the NE US with such an alarming angle that it generated record-high storm surge. It had a very large wind circumference that affected most parts of the US and of course, the "frankenstorm" tag and that it would merge with a winter storm that created a "super storm" that was Sandy. Again, it hit a financial capital and it caused a lot of troubles economically.

Bopha is a real interesting TC this year and having a late Cat5 super typhoon is already a shocking way to end the WPAC season. Speaking about its development and its peak strength alone, these are more than enough to make Bopha a notable storm. The devastation that it left is a manifestation of what kind of monster this typhoon had become.

@the last video posted by HurricaneBill

i noticed how the wind changed direction. like the trees were going with the strong winds to the left, then it pointed to the right later on. is this an indication of the eyewall passing somewhere between those times?

death toll now at 955, many still missing...
http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/regions/12/15/12/pablo-death-toll-now-955-ndrrmc
if government response remain slow, that number will continually rise becaus of diseases now spreading in the typhoon zone

i dont know there is such rules in naming here in PH. but thanks for the info
I personally don't favor another masculine name.. PH is somewhat on a curse of typhoons starting with letter "P"
2009- Parma ( Pepeng) - retired http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=71&t=106691&start=380
2010- (Paeng) - just escaped retirement due to below average activity of the 2010 typhoon season. but that is the same name used in the 2006 season that made landfall in luzon as a CAT 5 http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=90831&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
2011- Nesat ( Pedring)- retired http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=73&t=111945&st=0&sk=t&sd=a
2012- Bopha ( Pablo) - retired
