Btw is Dotstar still doing dropwindsonde observations out of taiwan.

Yes i believe so...Haiyan is too far south of taiwan's AOR to send one though.

To put haiyan into perspective atm in relation size it looks to be large enough to cover atleast half of the Philippines and its still growing in size. looks to be drawing from a strong kelvin wave.

Very scared of this, thus many people here in Cebu are buying items for the storm. These are flashlights, canned goods, etc. My hands are shaking...

Although, its unusually hot over here! We had this before Son-Tinh and Bopha hit us, but not with Wukong - it was sort of soggy.

Scenario with Bopha: Bopha was supposed to hit Cebu City directly. Because of retaining its westerly, slightly west-northwest movement, it clashed through North Central Mindanao instead.

Several agencies [at first] predicted that this will turn WNW on Nov 3, but is resuming its westerly direction UNTIL NOW because of the steering flow, pushing it towards Southern Leyte or Surigao City.

I find Haiyan's track - weird! Previously moving WNW, now moving south of west. Then headed west again. Also, for its low latitude (not as low as 26W/Bopha last year) and its rapid intensification.

Image

Another storm I can recall hitting Visayas and N. Mindanao on November was a storm called 'Mike' or locally 'Ruping'. People said that this was the worst storm that ever occurred in Cebu province, as a Category 4. Because of this, over 700 people's lives perished and caused over $200 million in damages - CEBU ALONE!

GOD BLESS US!

If Haiyan will retain its speed, it will make landfall later than expected.

The title should be HAIYAN - Severe Tropical Storm instead of ‘HAIYAN - Typhoon’.

OFF TOPIC---
5AM, we had a 3.7 aftershock this morning! Yes. We pray everyday, a Cebuano tradition [a Catholic/Christian area]...

BACK TO THE TOPIC---
Haiyan is a large storm, so it might cause typhoon conditions as far as Cebu City and Mayon [Albay].

i think the storm will turn to a WNW track in the next 24/hours. Haiyan is now getting the attention it deserves and it's only about 1 day and 9 hours since it's birth.

Stay safe xtyphooncyclonex.
